ACHIEVING LOW ENERGY MASONRY Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th of March 2007 Queens Building Streatham Campus UNIVERSITY OF EXETER
INTRODUCTION ‘Achieving low energy masonry' marks the final workshop of the SUMACON network. The future of sustainable masonry in the UK will be explored in light of government aims to reduce carbon emissions. The proceedings will encompass diverse themes of sustainability through policy, practice, materials, design and waste management, focusing on masonry construction. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role of whole life assessment techniques to quantify the environmental impact of lime and cementitious binder production. The latest advances in techniques for conservation of masonry and materials characterisation for repair will be explored. The programme will include talks by leading academics, industrialists, architects and engineers providing an environment for open debate. Identification of new areas of research and funding opportunities will encourage the establishment of long standing links between industry and academics.
