INTRODUCTION

In order for UK Industry to increase competitiveness in the development of sustainable building materials, communication between all sectors of the building industry is essential. As landfill taxes increase, the use of waste materials in building is becoming increasing attractive.

Representatives from relevant sectors of the building industry will report on government policy, current technology, research and development of new materials.

The workshop will provide an environment of open discussion between academics, materials producers and suppliers with architects, engineers and government policy makers available. The aim of the workshop is to identify new areas of research, establish new partnerships between industry and academics and identify how future policy and changes in legalisation will influence the development of current technologies.

Opportunity will be available to ask questions and discuss ideas raised during the course of the event.

The workshop is organised by the SUMACON network, which is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

The following issues will be addressed during the workshop
